Welcome to Optimist year 2012/2013. The Optimist Club of Aurora is all about “Bringing out the Best in Kids”. We are a service club of men and women of almost 60 members who happily give our time and talents to help out in our community. Our only reward is the smiles on the faces of the youth we serve. We all agree that there is no better feeling than being able to help others and hopefully make a positive difference in their lives. We all share a common goal so friendships develop both within and outside Club activities. We are in the middle of our second quarter and have already had our mobile kitchen in use at the Family day in the Town Park on February 20. Right after that, on February 23, we hosted the 16th annual chess tournament for grades kindergarden to 12 of the schools in Aurora. Over 250 youth participated. The top three winners and other qualifiers go on to the regional championships. This event was followed by our participation in the Bowling for Kids afternoon at Gateway Lanes. A great time was held by all. No major activities are planned for March but April will start with a bang with the annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Seniors Centre on April 7. Members of the Club will be hard at work preparing and serving pancakes for the weary hunters and their families. This will be followed by the annual Aurora Home Show on April13-15. Our Club will again be operating the Refreshment Garden in the upstairs auditorium of the Aurora community Centre. Our assortment of hamburgers, peameal, hot dogs and sausages will be available along with various beverages. Then on April 29, members of the Club will be cooking pancakes for participants in the annual Run for Southlake. Watch here for news on other upcoming events in the next quarter.
