  Welcome to Optimist year 2011/2012.

The Optimist Club of Aurora is all about “Bringing out the Best in Kids”. We are a service club of men and women of almost 60 members who happily give our time and talents to help out in our community. Our only reward is the smiles on the faces of the youth we serve.
We all agree that there is no better feeling than being able to help others and hopefully make a positive difference in their lives. We all share a common goal so friendships develop both within and outside Club activities.
We are just starting our first quarter and the first event involves our mobile kitchen at the Haunted Forest at Sheppard’s Bush on October 29. It should be a great time for all as well as an opportune time to taste one of our delicious burgers, sausages or hot dogs. October 29 will also be our last date of the year at the outdoors Farmer’s Market at the Town Park.
In November we will once again hold our famous book sale at the Aurora Library. The doors will open at 8:00 am on Saturday November 26 and will run until Sunday November 27 at 3:00 pm. There will be thousands of brand new books available in all categories. In addition to the book sale, the Club will be marshalling the annual “Santa Under the Stars Parade” which will be held on Saturday November 26 starting at 6:00 pm. Our Club elves and construction superintendents are busy building our annual Santa Claus Parade Float for entry into the parade.
December is also a busy time. The Club is heavily involved in the 16th annual Optimist Showcase Tournament for the house league players of Aurora Minor Hockey. Skill competitions for the players will be held on December 27, followed by tournament games and the championship games on December 30. This is a wonderful tournament for all of the house league youth.
More news to come in the new year.

   Yours in Optimism
   Alex S. Ansell
