Some of the sponsored local activities are:
Optimist Hockey
 |
The Club sponsors the recreational hockey program for the 5-6 year olds known as
"Opti Hockey".
This program takes place on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and emphasizes skills and learning of team play. |
Chess
 |
For the last several years, the club has held a chess tournament for grades 1 to 12 of all schools in Aurora. The winners of the tournament qualify
for the York Region finals. About 400 students in Aurora took part in 2004. See the Optimist Chess website here

Minor Ball
 |
Teams in the Aurora Minor Ball Association have been sponsored for several years.

Aurora Public Library
Proceeds from the annual book sale go towards providing books and other services for the children's section of the library. Over $100,000 has been donated to the Library to date.
Santa Claus Parade
|
Since 1987 the Club has been extensively involved with the Town of Aurora in the planning and marshalling of the annual Santa Claus parade, as well as building and entering our own float.

Highview Millenium Project
The Club sponsored the project to ensure playground access for all children regardless of their
capabilities. This project built a playground on McClellan Way, behind Highview Public School.
Aurora Girls Hockey
The Club has sponsored a team in the Aurora Girls Hockey Association.
Respect for Law

Each Year in May the Club honours an individual from the York Regional Police for his/her work with the
community, with an award presented at a special dinner.

Aurora Band Festival
The club has started a band festival for the senior grades of the Aurora elementary schools and grade 9 bands of the high schools.
Community Safety Village
 |
The Club has been a strong supporter through donations and other fund raisers for the new Community Safety Village for York Region constructed in the Bruce's Mill Conservation Area.
From September 2004, children of all over York Region will utilize the Village as a "hands-on" opportunity for youth to learn about safety from all points of view: rules of the road, pedestrian and fire safety.

Optimist International Foundation of Canada
Donations are made to the Foundation to provide scholarship funds for Canadian students who have won contests in oratorical, communication for the deaf and hard of hearing and essay.
The Foundation also provides funds for the sponsorship of leadership development, training seminars and other youth programs.
Minor Hockey Showcase

A hockey tournament for all house league teams of the Aurora Minor Hockey Association is held during the Christmas break in partnership with the Aurora Minor Hockey Association and Aurora Canadian Tire.
In addition to hockey games, the players are tested on various skills aspects of the game of hockey. Over 1,200 youth take part representing up to 75 teams.
Prizes for the winning teams are provided by Canadian Tire. There is also a hockey game involving the local NHL Oldtimers, Aurora Tigers, AMHA coaches and other celebrity community members.

Individual Requests
The Club reviews requests from individuals and groups to help with specific youth need situations.
Other Projects and Programs
The Club provides support for many other programs such as help with Beaver and Boy Scout groups, figure skating and the Big Brothers bowling.
